The layout of each house includes four bedrooms, a living and dining room, and two and a half bathrooms. The gardens are large enough to enjoy barbeques and parties with neighbors. Spaciously designed interiors are more than sufficient for entertaining guests.
After first choosing a site for his own residence in 1934, Ernest W. James also built 55 Western-style houses on the land. Rebuilt and upgraded to suit modern day needs, the houses in Shioya, with their stunning panoramic views, are built with higher ceilings and bigger windows than houses in the traditional Japanese style, and they are designed to suit a Western lifestyle. Generations upon generations of Western expats and their families that have come to Japan, have all enjoyed the spacious, beautiful scenery that Shioya provides.
